Okay, here's something that struck me as kind of odd. Valve has updated Left 4 Dead 2 with new DLC which will eventually (or already has) give(n) it all the Left 4 Dead 1 content. Meaning that the entire game of L4D1 is now entirely rolled up in the sequel (http://www.shacknews.com/article/67549/left-4-dead-2-dlc) for PC at least. Doesn't this render the first game completely obsolete?
That's a very interesting tactic to take, is Left 4 Dead 1 gone then? Why would you ever buy it or play it? Is this an attempt to migrate the entire user base over to one game, reduce support costs or is it just a loss leader to attract people to use steam? Is there any issue taken by the gamers who paid full price for their PC version of L4D1. Is the game so old that no one cares anymore?
As a side note, I own both at full price on my xbox - and now I have all that same content for $5 on my steam account. Totally crazy.
Anyway, its their stuff they can do what they want with it. But it doesn't make me want to pick up portal 2 for my xbox this year. I'll wait and see how the PC version fares and check it out again down the line if I ever upgrade my machine.
